My Family
My Role Models
My parents, older brother, and sister are my role-models. Had it not been for their love and support, I would not be who I am today.
My Heritage
Language Mission
My father was born in Nanjing, China and my mother was born in the United States. Even though I grew up speaking a bit of Chinese at home, my opportunities to use, practice, and celebrate the language have been limited throughout my life in the United States. Determined to work towards fluency, I have sought out every opportunity within reach to study the language. Studying Chinese isn’t just for the sake of learning a foreign language, but rather, speaking Chinese is how I feel connected to my family’s culture and history.
Family Traditions
Every Christmas Eve my family makes dumplings for dinner, a truly treasured tradition.
Taiwan Intensive Summer Language Program
Summer Abroad
Through receiving the Fulbright-Hays scholarship, in the summer of 2024 I had the privilege of spending eight weeks in Taiwan studying Chinese. Not only did the intensive program expand my vocabulary, reading and listening comprehension, and cultural understanding, it also provided me with the confidence to make mistakes, ask questions, and strive to maintain a positive attitude throughout the learning process. This program showed me the power of my own tenacity.
